Viessmann has continued to strengthen its position as a market leader in the production of air source heat pumps since it launched its first model in 1978. The German company’s Vitocal range has become one of the most highly rated varieties available on the market in recent years and are considered something of the ‘gold standard’ when it comes to heat pumps.
Viessmann Heat Pump Specifications
There are several main models available within the Viessmann Vitocal range including the following:
Each of Viessmann’s heat pumps come with a two year warranty as standard. However, upon registering your new heat pump installation you will be able to access an extended warranty period. Any registration processes must be completed within 30 days of having your heat pump installed.
Viessmann Heat Pump Product Ranges

Vitocal 150-A
One of the most environmentally friendly heat pumps available on the market, the Vitocal 150-A utilises refrigerant R290 (propane) which is considered to be very environmentally friendly. Propane is also considered to be cost effective, which will allow your household to make further savings. Additionally, the Vitocal 150-A has a low noise pollution rating, which is ideal for those that are worried about the additional noise a heat pump may bring.

Vitocal 151-A
Building upon the environmentally friendly, low noise production, and cost effective nature of the Vitocal 150-A system, the 151-A variant offers higher power capabilities (as seen in the table below). However, offsetting the power benefits, the 151-A has a slightly higher sound power level and a reduced maximum flow temperature operating window. Additionally, both indoor and outdoors units are marginally bigger, meaning they will require more space within your property. But the greater performance you’ll notice may well be worth the compromises necessary to install the heat pump.

Vitocal 200-A
The final Viessmann heat pump system we will look at is the 200-A variant. Not only is this system considered powerful, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly, but the monobloc design of the 200-A ensures that it does not take up too much room when installed. However, this Viessmann model is not the cheapest available on the market and is not the most suitable addition for homes that are located in colder climates.

Viessmann Company Overview:
First established in 1917, Viessman, a German company, was founded by Johann Viessmann in Hof an der Saale. The manufacturer specialises in heating and refrigeration systems, and have been at the forefront of technology changes for many decades.
The German company first expanded into the solar energy sector in 1976, and then their first air source heat pumps two years later. Since then, they have only continued to expand further into the renewable energy sector, offering both air source and ground source heat pumps.
Pros And Cons Of Viessmann Air Source Heat Pumps
There are plenty of benefits and drawbacks to the new ‘green’ energy solutions that are available on the market – and all of these must be considered before you dive into purchasing any Viessmann heat pump. As a highly trusted brand, this does come at a cost, but many people will find that the advantages far outweigh the drawbacks with what are heat pumps at the top end of the scale.
| Advantages Of Heat Pumps | Disadvantages Of Heat Pumps |
| Heating And Cooling Solution: Air source heat pumps have a dual purpose as they are able to both heat and cool your home. | High Initial Costs: Veissmann heat pumps generally cost more than many other brands so therefore require a high initial investment. |
| Eco-friendly: Unlike traditional central heating systems heat pumps do not require the burning of fossil fuels so aids carbon reduction. Viessman heat pumps also use low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants such as R290 and R32. | Your Property May Not Be Suitable: Heat pumps have a large amount of equipment required in order to work currently, which in turn requires a lot of space. With some models you may need space for the heat pump itself and a separate hot water cylinder. |
| High efficiency: A high efficiency level with COP often greater than 5.0 leads to overall energy bill savings (especially if combined with own solar production). | Require electricity: Heat pumps require electricity to power the heat pump, which can sometimes be more expensive, especially when the outdoor temperatures fall in the winter months. |
| Quiet operation: Viessmann heat pumps are generally quiet in operation, typically operating between 40-60 dB. | Additional Costs: In order to get the most out of your heat pump, you may need to upgrade radiators and/or underfloor heating and associated pipework. |
| Low Maintenance Alternative: Heat pumps are extremely low maintenance and have less moving parts so are less likely to fail.. | Planning Permission Difficulties: You may need planning permission for installation of a heat pump. This can be difficult to achieve, especially if you reside in a listed property or within a conservation area. |
Viessmann Heat Pumps FAQs
Q: Are Viessman Heat Pumps Noisy?
A: If you are worried that a Veissmann heat pump will cause noise issues for your household and neighbours, you will be happy to hear that it should not pose any real problem. One of the most common misconceptions of heat pumps is that they are loud whilst they are running.
However, Viessmann heat pumps produce noise that is not much more noticeable than a background hum. In fact, many of their heat pumps use their noise-reduction Advanced Acoustic Design meaning that noise levels will typically be around 40 to 60 dB or even as low as 35dB when in night mode.
Q: Can I Get Financial Help To Purchase A Viesmann Air Source Heat Pump?
A: There are two main schemes available that can help with the financial burden of having a Veissmann air source heat pump installed.
The first being the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which is available to households in England and Wales. If you have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating and up to date insulation, then you will be able to apply for up to £7,500 to help pay for the cost and installation of either an air source heat pump or a ground source heat pump.
Alternatively, if you live in Scotland, then the Home Energy Scotland scheme may be able to help you.
Connect with an installer & qualify for £7,500 in funding.
You don’t need to be claiming benefits!
